“Smiles go for miles and miles.”

Caring for Kids - The Carrie Martin Fund is a Foundation within Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The endowment was established to help children faced with the most difficult of medical conditions.

In existence for over 2 decades, Caring for Kids - The Carrie Martin Fund represents the efforts of everyday people who have organized their efforts with a desire to make a difference.

- Carrie Martin

Carrie Martin’s parents, Dan and Linda, established the Caring for Kids - The Carrie Martin Fund initiative to honor the spirit and life of their daughter. Carrie Martin was first treated successfully for a brain tumor as a baby. For many years, she enjoyed the life of a child, growing and learning. At age 13, doctors determined that the chemotherapy and radiation that had saved her life had also done irreparable damage to her lungs. Carrie needed a double lung transplant. Through the courage of a Philadelphia family who had lost their 6-year-old daughter, Carrie received the lungs she needed. The transplant allowed the Martins to enjoy Carrie a year and a half following the operation.

Carrie’s indomitable spirit touched everyone she met. She taught all who knew her to find joy in all of life’s moments and to never give up hope. Caring for Kids - The Carrie Martin Fund is about helping others with needs similar to Carrie’s. It is about providing hope and love to others.
